The charity wanted to co-create a film with their Youth Group.
We started by chatting to the charity about what they wanted to achieve with the film, the budget and the parameters for the project. Having clear boundaries for what can and can’t be created helps the process.
Our kick off session with the Youth Group was one around co-creation, what it meant to have a shared voice and how we wanted to communicate as a team going forward. The next four session guided the group around what message they wanted to communicate, who their audience was and the action that they wanted the audience to take. We went through style options and discussed who would be featured on camera.
Throughout this time, we shared info and examples on WhatsApp to keep the group engaged. It was very important that they had control of the content and messaging. The group decided that they wanted to create a film that would let any young people who was affected by Huntington’s Disease know that they were not alone and that there was a community out there for them.
Once we had refined the messaging, we decided who wanted to share their story and asked them where they would like to be filmed. We then filmed with each of them across the UK, keeping the questions clear and gave them space to tell their stories. The charity gave feedback on the edit before we showed it to the young people featured and then the wider group.
The young people all loved the film and it is now being shared to help others in the same situation.
