Our Process

We’re on a mission to help the charity sector produce more authentic, inspiring, compelling films ethically, openly and collaboratively. The Saltways approach is built on four principles:
Preparation

We work with you to understand your objectives, identify your audiences, clarify key messages, and establish must-have boundaries.

Co-creation

We work collaboratively at every stage, from preparation through production to delivery. We facilitate co-creation sessions with teams and the people sharing their stories, making space for authentic experiences to rise to the surface.

Ethical Storytelling

We follow ethical storytelling principles, including free and informed consent at all stages, respecting the need for anonymity, truth-telling, and upholding the dignity of everyone involved.

Trauma Informed Approach

We implement a trauma-informed approach, ensuring sensitivity to how trauma affects thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and creating an environment of care and respect for all individuals involved.

Embracing the Unexpected

Everyone’s voice is unique, and people don’t share their experiences authentically by sticking to the script. We’ll deliver on the brief. But we’ll make space for the unpredictable to allow the raw truth to emerge—which leads to more distinctive, engaging storytelling.

The Core Pillars of Ethical Filmmaking

It’s not my story

I do no harm

We are all multi-dimensional

Consent is more than paperwork

I am biased. (Repeat)

I do my homework

I am empathetic

I protect others’ data like it’s my own

Truth over headlines

A story can change the world
