For 140 years, Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home has been there for the dogs and cats who need us. We give our all to keep loving homes whole by providing food and advice through Pet Food Banks and Pet Care Clinics. And when that’s not possible, we take in the animals who need us and love them as if they were our own. We give every dog and cat the best level of care we can, from food and veterinary care to training and enrichment, all to get them ready for their future family.
Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home created its first legacy film in years to encourage supporters to include the charity in their wills. The film featured Susan, who left half her house to the organisation, sharing her story of adopting rescue dog Amy and her decision-making process. The film addressed legacy giving misconceptions head-on while showcasing the charity's 140-year track record and local Edinburgh roots. Shot across two days at Susan's home and the charity's facilities, the film aimed to inspire warm supporters to consider legacy giving by demonstrating the deep human-animal bond and the organisation's trustworthy, hands-on approach to animal care.
The production followed a two-day filming schedule designed to capture authentic storytelling and real relationships. Day one focused on Susan at home, documenting her natural interactions with Amy through activities like playing, feeding, and walking. Interview questions guided Susan to share her adoption journey, research process, and candid responses to people who question her legacy decision, preserving her direct, business-like voice without over-polishing.
Day two shifted to Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home's facilities, featuring staff interviews about the impact of legacy gifts and the charity's work. B-roll captured dignified animal care moments including feeding, playing, beach walks, and the cattery, alongside footage of the food bank and reception areas.
Throughout both days, the approach prioritised genuine moments over staged perfection, capturing Susan's authenticity, staff dedication, and animals' personalities to create emotional connection without manipulation, supporting the core message of dependable, trustworthy care.
The charity expressed great feedback on the film and our team's professionalism and skills.
